Über dieses Buch:
The present book seeks to explain one of the major bioevents in Mediterranean prehistory: the disappearance of Pleistocene island faunas. In a generalized approach to the subject, geological, biological, palaeontological, and archaeological factors are discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on animal ethology and analogies drawn from extinctions of island faunas documented during historical times, two fields of study frequently overlooked in previous discussions of the subject. A series of conclusions is reached, for which the archaeological record alone would not supply sufficient evidence. But when viewed in conjunction with evidence found by other disciplines, there is little doubt that man is primarily responsible for the extinctions of Pleistocene faunas on all of the mediterranean islands.
